The Amberwood Light Railway (ALR)
The Amberwood light Railway is my 16mm to the Foot (SM32) Garden Railway. Based on the slate railways of Wales it runs a lot of smaller quarry type Locomotives and smaller stock. And the aim to build as much as possible myself makes it truly one of a kind .
The line it itself is not incredibly long and is in the shape of a dog bone. At one end where have the works and goods shed, and at the other the plan is to have the quarry and mines.
Loco Stock atm consists of
HGLW cabbed petrol engine NO 1 (retired due to heavy wear during track laying)
HGLW open cabbed petrol engine (in service)
PDF models Quarry Hunslet (in service)
Home Build Hunslet -Didymus- (in service)
Home build finescale quarry Hunslet to Dave Watkins Drawings (in works- currently working on motion)
Home build Freelace 040 Sidetank ( in works - built on a second Janet chassis, boiler done, currently working on body work and gas burner)
Rolling stock at the moment is all kit built. But the are plans and materials for scratch made in the near future(hopefully)
Current stock comes from the following suppliers
Binnie Engineering - Tippers/Slate wagons
Swift Enterprises - Gunpowder van, boggie wagon, tub wagons
Lineside Hut - Slate quarry rubbish wagons (in works) and freelance coaches
HGLW - Brake Van
IP Engineering - Brake Van
All stock is well weathered to represent true working conditions for this type of railway, i know some people like their stock in A1 condition but the is not me.
All the slate on the line is real, so the wagon weight is quite something for the little engines to pull. The slate wagon slate where cut on a tile saw and then split with a hammer and a stanely knife blade.
